YUFA statement about the recent anti-2SLGBTQIA+ protests (September 20th, 2023)

The York Faculty Association joins the Canadian Labour Congress, NUCAUT and many unions and associations in condemning the pernicious protests against  2SLGBTQIA+.

This disturbing climate of increasing intolerance and hate directed at specific equity seeking groups was manifested at the #1MillionMarch4Children protests in over 80 locations across the country.

YUFA supports unequivocally practices and policies designed to make schools safer and more inclusive spaces for 2SLGBTQIA+ students. YUFA condemns hate - motivated efforts to undermine the progress made in ensuring a positive learning environments for all students.

YUFA stands with the 2SLGBTQIA+ members of our community and remains very concerned about the impact of such protests in marginalizing all equity deserving groups.

Such homophobic and transphobic protests of bigotry, hate and violence threaten the fundamental human rights of all. These demonstrations are not in isolation but are very much linked to racism, anti-immigrant sentiments, and religious intolerance. YUFA remains committed in its vigilance in calling out practices and policies,  derivative of and consistent with the hate motivated marginalization of all equity deserving groups.
