At its meeting on Dec. 8, 2023, the YUFA Executive Committee discussed the proposal to establish a School of Medicine. The senior administration of the university is seeking approval from the provincial government for such a school.

The Executive Committee reviewed the shortcomings identified by the Auditor General of Ontario at the university including regarding governance, financial planning, and administrative bloat. YUFA’s statement can be read here. 

Also discussed were statements by the Employer that there is little money for employee compensation, especially retroactive pay for the past three years when salaries for unionized employees were limited to a 1% increase. The state of labour relations at the university was also the subject of discussion.

The Executive Committee anticipates returning to this topic in 2024.
