YUFA condemns violence on public transportation

YUFA denounces the violence that riders of public transit in the greater Toronto region face. The recent reports of such violence are particularly disconcerting especially the attack that occurred at the York University subway station where a passenger was shot at with a BB gun.

The president of YUFA will be speaking with Rhonda Lenton, president of the university, to express YUFA’s concern especially in regard to the subway stations located on campus. YUFA’s position is that students, faculty, staff and others travelling to and from York campuses must be provided with a safe environment. This is a particularly the case for racialized individuals who are often at more risk of experiencing violence and discrimination.

YUFA stands with all members of the university community who travel via public transit.
