At the November 3, 2023 meeting of YUFA's Stewards' Council,  the body that directs the affairs of the Association between general membership meetings (Article 4.1 of the YUFA Constitution), Stewards passed, by strong majority, the following motions regarding the importance of academic freedom in times of crisis and the current crisis unfolding in Gaza.

Motion 1

The Stewards Council of YUFA considers it YUFA's responsibility to proactively and continuously speak out and protect its members in this time of crisis and to remind the senior administration at York University of its core responsibility to protect the academic freedom of all its members.

Motion 2

The Stewards Council of YUFA joins the international community in calling for an immediate ceasefire and immediate answer to the humanitarian crisis currently occurring in Gaza.

Motion 3

The Stewards Council of YUFA join the call to the immediate release of hostages taken by the Hamas on October 7th, 2023.
