Phishing is when a scammer emails you (or calls or texts) to trick you into clicking a malicious link. Phishing attempts are often generic mass messages, but the messages appear to be legitimate and from a trusted source.
Something may be phishy if: you don’t recognize the sender’s name, email address, there are spelling and grammatical errors, or the email sounds too good to be true.
Verify links before you click them. Hover over the link to see if the information (sender/website address) matches what you expect. You can report suspicious emails, and phishing attempts, using your email client (such as Microsoft Outlook).
Faculty members have reported a recent phishing message referencing a 16.82 percent pay raise (We can but dream!) Do not click on those links.
