Call for Participation in Committees
The mandate of the new Co-operative is "to provide food and beverage services to its members, as well as a location for social interaction and intellectual engagement. In offering these services, the Co-operative will prioritize healthy and sustainable food and beverage options and the provision of experiential education opportunities for students."
To effectively fulfill its mandate, the Co-operative needs the active participation of its members. In particular, it needs its members to participate in the committees listed below. If you are interested in participating in any of these committees, please indicate the committee in which you are interested and email [email protected].
(1) Sustainability and Supply Chain Management
The mandate of this committee is to develop policies for sourcing products in line with the Co-op’s commitment to sustainability and social justice. In addition, the committee will establish and employ metrics for evaluating the Co-op's practice with regard to these issues, and should be actively involved in searching out suppliers (and potential suppliers) who will engage in best practices. The committee will also seek to incorporate experiential education opportunities for students in their work, especially for student in programs of study that align with the mandate of the committee.
(2) Education and Marketing
The mandate of this committee is to promote the services of the Co-op and educate members regarding issues of sustainability and social justice as they relate to the Co-op's practices. More specifically, the committee will be responsible for developing marketing and education plans, ideally integrating the two. The committee will also seek to incorporate experiential education for students in their activities, especially for students in programs of study, which align with their mandate.
(3) Member Engagement and Events
The mandate of this committee is to develop policies for hosting events, to review proposals for hosting events, organizing events, consulting with the membership around issues of member satisfaction regarding the functioning of the Co-op, etc. In undertaking these activities, the committee will seek to harmonize their work with the Co-op's commitments to social justice and sustainability, and to incorporate experiential education opportunities as appropriate.
(4) Ad hoc Start-up Committee
The mandate of this committee is to address start-up tasks that do not fall within the purview of other committees. This would include such issues as recommending a POS system, applying for licensees (liquor, food services), drafting a job description for a manager (and other employees), etc.
