Employer Unresponsive to COVID-19-related Bargaining Proposals
On February 11th, in response to a general membership motion, the YUFA Executive, along with members and staff, launched a survey of members’ view on return-to-campus plans in the context of the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic.
A total of 564 members participated in this survey. Please find a summary and breakdown of the responses to this questionnaire here.
First, please note that the YUFA Bargaining Team has tabled several pandemic-related proposals with the employer which reflect members’ serious concerns about their working conditions since the beginning of the COVID 19 pandemic. These bargaining proposals:
- Strengthen the rights of units to determine the mode of delivery in the context of public safety concerns
- Provide additional workload considerations for dual mode or hybrid (e.g. Hyflex) teaching modes and teaching during periods of disruption
- Improve access to accommodations for care-giving members
So far, the employer has not responded to these YUFA proposals.
The YUFA Executive has scheduled a Special General Members Meeting to discuss the upcoming strike mandate vote. The meeting will be held February 22 at 1pm. The vote will begin immediately after the meeting, and end on Feb 28th.
Please attend this very important meeting to hear directly from YUFA Bargaining Team members about our COVID 19 related proposals and other key proposals related to compensation, equity, workload and working conditions, accommodations, collegial governance, and retirement security.
