1. The next YUFA Members’ Zoom drop-in session is Wednesday, October 2, from 12:00 noon to 1:00pm. The topic for the session is “Restructuring and Faculty Councils.” All members are invited to attend. Faculty Council Chairs and Executive members particularly welcome. 3. YUFA report on September 26 Senate meeting: There was an active in-person Senate meeting on Sept 26 with many questions and interventions by faculty members, especially regarding the Markham campus, the medical school accreditation and approval process, the university's financial situation, and trade-offs in decision-making.
The October 24 Senate meeting will consider the new Senate budget/finance advisory committee, the medical school decision process, and a proposed new institutional planning committee. The university’s presidential search is also to be discussed soon.
The Senate faculty caucus will continue to meet before each Senate meeting in South Ross 701. The Senate meetings on October 24 and November 28 will be in-person. 4. On Wednesday, September 25, York University workers and students marched to reclaim the York University campus. Thank you to YUFA members who joined members of CUPE 3903, CUPE 1356, the York Federation of Students, the York University Graduate Students Association, the York University Staff Association, the Osgoode Hall Faculty Association. A short report and photos will be shared shortly.
5. Monday, September 30, was National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. YUFA supports the statement that the Canadian Association of University Teachers released.
6. YUFA is accepting applications for Education Leaves and Teaching-Learning Development Grants. To see whether you may be eligible for these funds, the guidelines and applications for each of the leaves, grants, and fellowships please see here: https://www.yufa.ca/leaves_and_fellowships. All applications will be adjudicated by a YUFA-Employer joint committee. The deadline for these applications is Monday, November 15, 2024.
Applications for the Release Time Teaching Fellowship will be provided to members shortly.
Applications are only accepted by email. Please send all applications by email to [email protected] and include in the subject line the name of the leave, grant, or fellowship for which you are applying for.
7. The Employer has posted a draft discussion paper and support documents on its Faculties of the Future Plan (Passport York login required). YUFA is sharing these documents so that members might be involved in discussions, but this does not mean that YUFA agrees with, nor endorses the content. YUFA will be holding consultations with members on the draft discussion paper.
