YUFA mourns the passing of Professor Emeritus Fred Weizmann

Frederic (Fred) Weizmann completed his PhD in psychology at Ohio State University in 1966. He joined York University in 1972 where he remained until his retirement in 2005. His research interests were in the historical and theoretical foundations of developmental psychology and child development.

He was a dedicated supporter of YUFA and after his retirement become president of the Association of Retired Faculty and Librarians of York University (ARFL). In that capacity he represented ARFL on the YUFA Executive Committee. ARFL’s mandate is to represent the interests of retirees within YUFA and, where appropriate, to the administration.

University Professor Emeritus Robert Drummond recalls Professor Weizmann as a congenial colleague with a keen interest in US politics. Professor Drummond also recalls a time when Professor Weizmann mounted a spirited defence (in a Faculty Council debate) of teaching Latin at the university.

Professor Weizmann passed away on October 26, 2023.
