More than 150 YUFA colleagues have signed a letter of protest regarding the sudden firing of two YUSA staff members and 2 CPM (Confidential Professional & Managerial) staff members at the Teaching Commons, the university’s main pedagogical support centre. The Teaching Commons was created through consultative work by a cross-Faculty committee, but its two developers were stripped of their YUFA membership and Collective Agreement protections. The Teaching Commons’ website still maintains “We create and support equitable spaces for faculty engagement for all who teach at York.” YUFA is grieving the erosion of adequate facilities and services for faculty members (Article 18.39).
