SRCs: three more colleagues’ contracts were not renewed

Special Renewable Contract faculty:  6 renewed, 3 more colleagues’ contracts were discontinued as of Feb 1.

  • The SRC programme was intended as a limited measure to counter the widespread casualization of academic labour, guaranteeing some long-standing sessional employees a measure of job security before retirement.
  • Currently, SRCs work in various corners of the university: LAPS, Science, Glendon, Health and AMPD. Expressing solidarity with SRC colleagues is not contingent upon working in any of these Faculties, of course. It is to do what we must and would do to support any other YUFA members if they were in comparable situations.
  • The non-renewal of SRCs we have witnessed is not based on our colleagues' performance. These are austerity measures. Letters of non-renewal invariably praise the contributions of the SRCs before announcing the bad news.  This is top-down restructuring, with little to no regard for units’ teaching needs or academic governance.

YUFA has launched grievances to support these colleagues.
