Special Renewable Contracts (SRCs) update

YUFA continues to fight for members hired under Special Renewable Contracts (SCRs) whose contracts were not renewed, and to protect the jobs and rights of other SRC members. Litigation continues for the four members currently impacted by the non-renewal of their contracts.

Ten additional SRC members, not on the same renewal cycle as the four currently impacted, have submitted their renewal requests. One contract has been renewed, while nine members are awaiting a response from the Dean’s Office. The decisions by the Employer on the remaining nine members are to be made by February 1, 2025.

YUFA members are encouraged to discuss this matter in their unit, and to raise it at Faculty Councils and at Senate. There are many pedagogical arguments to make when units may lose valuable colleagues with long-standing experience, year-long courses may be negatively affected, and the teaching needs of the unit are impacted. The renewal of these contracts is also a collegial process, where colleagues (SRC members, their colleagues, the chair) assess what is needed to maintain the pedagogical integrity of their program. YUFA stands behind our SRC members!
