Solidarity with YUSA Unit 2 administrative workers

The York University Staff Association (YUSA) is asking faculty to stand in solidarity with YUSA Unit 2 administrative workers, many of whom are working in highly precarious conditions at York.

Key issues:

  • No paid sick days, no benefits, no job security
  • Lowest pay bands, with many positions starting just above minimum wage

In the current round of bargaining, the University is offering wage increases of 1.25% in the first year, followed by 1% in each of the next two years, this is well below the increases received by other unionized employees at York, including faculty (3.1%, 2.85%, and 2.85% in the last round). The employer has also rejected proposals to introduce basic protections such as paid sick days and benefits coverage for prescription drugs, dental, and vision care.

What’s happening next

  • YUSA Unit 2 strike vote: Monday, January 12 – Thursday, January 15

Faculty who wish to show their support are encouraged to speak with Unit 2 staff in their units and encourage them to VOTE YES in the strike vote. Faculty may also email [email protected] to request a strike vote poster.
