Report from the Annual General Members meeting of April 23rd

More than 100 members attended the YUFA Annual General Members meeting on April 23rd. Among the topics discussed were:

i) the YUFA 2025 Collective Agreement is now available on the YUFA website,

ii) a proposal for a levy to provide additional funds to the YUFA Defence Fund,

iii) amendments to the YUFA Constitution to permit improved member representation at Stewards Council,

iv) and the YUFA Trustees Report.

Members will have received ballots for an e-vote on the budget, levy, and amendment to the constitution.

The constitutional amendment is to allow the number of YUFA members required for a unit to be represented by a YUFA steward to be lowered from 50 to 40. This will make it easier for stewards to represent their members at a time when many units face two pressures at once: decreasing faculty complements and increasing demands to respond to university restructuring.

Since this change requires a constitutional amendment, it requires approved by the YUFA membership at large. If the amendment is approved by the membership, the following 11 YUFA units will gain a steward:

+ AMPD Cinema and Media Arts

+ Health Kinesiology & Health Sciences/ Health Policy and Management

+ Health Nursing

+ Health Psychology

+ LA&PS Economics

+ LA&PS Humanities/Writing

+ LA&PS Politics

+ LA&PS Sociology

+ LSE Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

+ Schulich

+ FS Biology

This constitutional change has no financial implications for YUFA.
