Concluding comments: A strong strike mandate vote will help YUFA negotiate the best settlement for members and oppose the Employer's concessionary proposals on compensation and other items.
NB: Members’ July pay includes an amount that YUFA, in collaboration with other campus unions, obtained earlier this year in an arbitrated settlement after the Ford government's public sector wage suppression legislation (Bill 124) was ruled illegal. This pay increment compensates members because their salary increases were illegally limited to 1% for the past three years. Despite a ‘wage reopener’ clause in our 2021-2024 Collective Agreement, the Employer initially refused to settle this matter until YUFA joined other campus unions – CUPE 3903, CUPE 1356, YUSA and OHFA -- to apply pressure.
