York University Faculty Association condemns hate-motivated attack at the University of Waterloo

The York University Faculty Association (YUFA) strongly condemns the recent act of violence visited upon faculty, staff and students at the University of Waterloo.

Universities are a bastion of free speech and edification and must remain so. We stand in solidarity with the University of Waterloo community against any attempt to silence discussion and perspicacious investigation, to force speech, or to require assimilation into any dogmatic, or hate fueled orthodoxy.

YUFA, as a member of the Canadian Labor Conference (CLC), strongly supported the emergency motion passed unanimously by the CLC membership in May to oppose hate in all its manifestations.

YUFA expresses its deepest empathy and concern for the individuals who have been affected by this hate filled and monstrous act.
