The Proposed Markham Campus

The proposed new campus in Markham is an issue of great importance to the York University community. Since it was announced that the senior administration was pursuing a new campus, YUFA has persistently requested information from the Employer, whether at meetings of the Joint Committee on the Administration of the Agreement, the JCOAA Long-Range Planning Sub-Committee, or in collegial bodies such as Senate. YUFA has been deeply concerned from the outset about the lack of collegial consultation and openness about the new campus, the proposed programs that will be delivered there, and the implications for both academic governance and our members’ work lives. The lack of significant information led the YUFA Executive to file in July 2015 an access request under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) with York University, the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, and the City of Markham for documents relevant to the Markham Campus.

YUFA has created a page on its website to be a repository for key documents related to the development of the new campus, including materials we have secured through our Freedom of Information requests. Now available to members are the documents provided to us by York University in response to our FIPPA request. We have also just received documents from the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, and will be adding these documents in the coming days, so please check back. We will continue to add materials as they become available. We strongly encourage YUFA members to review these materials, as they have direct bearing on other planning processes–such as the Integrated Institutional Resource Plan (IIRP) and the University Academic Plan–that faculty are participating in.
